Services: Needs Assessments

The goals of our technology and accommodation needs assessments are:

Assessment Philosophy

Fortunately, there are numerous options and products available to consumers with disabilities. We subscribe to the philosophy that there is no one right or wrong way to accommodate someone.

The synergy between an individual, their chosen high, low, and no-technology solutions, and the practical applications they must perform in their daily life are of utmost importance. Awareness and effective implementation of strategies and skills are also essential if independence and success are to be achieved.

Our assessment-related recommendations are not limited to pricey, high-tech solutions (such as braille displays and accessible notetakers). We believe that effective use of less costly, low-tech devices; skills such as orientation and mobility; and the ability to execute essential tasks of daily living can have an equally dramatic impact on productivity and quality of life.

The ability to take advantage of the wide array of high and low technology aids on the market is, never the less, an invaluable asset. For example, an individual’s computer programming skills may get them a job, but their talking alarm clock helps them get to work on time.

Even no tech solutions can have a dramatic effect on personal independence. Brailled clothing labels, tactile markings on electrical appliances, and differently shaped pill bottles require absolutely no technical ability or experience. However, they can be just as valuable as a multi-thousand dollar computer system.
